EPFO Activates UAN Only Through UMANG App

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a significant change in the process of activating a Universal Account Number (UAN). As of now, EPFO members can no longer use the EPFO portal for UAN activation and will have to rely solely on the UMANG app.

This change has been made after the EPFO upgraded its software and database, aiming to make the process more secure, faster, and reliable. Additionally, Aadhaar Face Authentication has been made mandatory to improve identity verification and reduce the chances of fraud.

To activate their UAN, members will need to download the UMANG app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and register using their Aadhaar-linked mobile number. They will then need to create a four-digit PIN and log in to the app. After logging in, they will need to search for 'EPFO' in the app, open 'UAN Services Through Face Auth', and select 'UAN Activation'.

The activation process involves entering the UAN, Aadhaar number, and Aadhaar-linked mobile number, followed by verifying the OTP received on the mobile phone. After OTP verification, the app will ask the user to install the Aadhaar Face RD app, which will then prompt them to complete a face scan. Once the face authentication is successfully completed, the user's details will appear on the screen, and they will need to verify the information and tap Submit.

After the activation process is completed successfully, the EPFO will send a temporary password to the registered mobile number through SMS, which can be used to access EPFO services. Members can check their UAN activation status by opening the UMANG app, going to 'UAN Services Through Face Auth', selecting 'UAN Allotment and Activation', and entering their UAN, Aadhaar number, and registered mobile number.

The introduction of the UMANG app as the sole means of UAN activation is a significant step towards digitization and security. The EPFO's efforts to upgrade its software and database are expected to improve the overall efficiency and reliability of the UAN activation process.

The EPFO's decision to make Aadhaar Face Authentication mandatory is also a crucial step towards preventing fraud and ensuring the security of its members' data. By using face authentication, the EPFO can verify the identity of its members more accurately, reducing the risk of unauthorized access to their accounts.

The change in the UAN activation process may cause some inconvenience to EPFO members who are accustomed to using the EPFO portal. However, the use of the UMANG app is expected to provide a more secure and efficient experience for members in the long run.

In conclusion, the EPFO's decision to activate UAN only through the UMANG app is a significant step towards improving the security and efficiency of the UAN activation process. By leveraging the latest technology and digitization, the EPFO is expected to provide better services to its members and improve the overall experience of using its portal.

The introduction of the new system is also expected to have a positive impact on the overall efficiency of the EPFO's services. With the use of the UMANG app, members can expect faster and more reliable services, which will ultimately benefit them in the long run.

Overall, the change in the UAN activation process is a significant development that is expected to have a positive impact on the EPFO and its members. By providing a more secure and efficient experience, the EPFO is expected to improve the overall satisfaction of its members and provide better services to them.
