PNB Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Patriotism

Punjab National Bank (PNB) celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm at its headquarters in Dwarka. The celebration began with PNB MD&CEO Ashok Chandra hoisting the National Flag and paying homage to Lala Lajpat Rai, a freedom fighter and one of the founders of PNB.

The event was attended by EDs, CVO, CGMs, and other senior officials of PNB. This year's celebrations were held under the theme 'Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047', alongside commemorating 150 Years of Vande Mataram.

In his address, Ashok Chandra said that India's journey since Independence is a story of remarkable transformation, resilience, and rising aspirations. He highlighted the country's rapid economic growth, with the first US$1 trillion economy taking six decades to build, and the next trillion being added in just seven years.

Chandra also spoke about PNB's role in contributing to the country's vision of becoming a US$30 trillion economy by 2047. He mentioned that the bank is well-positioned to support this journey, with its extensive network of 10,000+ branches, more than one lakh employees, and the trust of over 18 crore customers.

The bank is entering its next phase with a strong focus on technology-led transformation, with digital lending emerging as a key driver of growth. The portfolio is expected to cross ₹2 lakh crore by the end of FY27. The credit card business has also gained strong momentum, with the LUXURA premium credit card adding to the traction in this segment.

PNB also disbursed ₹8.6 crore in scholarships to more than 21,000 meritorious female students from SC/ST communities from government schools across the country under the PNB Ladli Shiksha Protsahan Yojana. The bank also extended educational and infrastructural support to Don Bosco Ashalayam, New Delhi, providing smart boards, medical supplies, stationery, and grocery items.

The bank's commitment to community welfare was further strengthened by its support to Helmet Bank. Chandra emphasized the importance of reskilling and upskilling employees, deepening financial inclusion, and strengthening cyber resilience and customer awareness against emerging digital frauds.
