Bharat Bhavan Covers Leaking Roof With Tarpaulin

The Modern Art Gallery of Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal has been forced to remove over 50 paintings by eminent artists due to water seeping from the walls and leaking from the ceiling. The removal of the paintings was necessary to prevent damage to the priceless art collection.

The roof of the Modern Art Gallery has been leaking at multiple places, and the walls have become damp. To prevent further water seepage, major parts of the roof have been covered with black tarpaulin sheets.

The paintings that were removed include works by notable artists such as Sudhir Patwardhan, Suresh Chaudhary, and Rajesh Ambalkar. The gallery normally displays around 300 paintings at a time.

The Bharat Bhavan's permanent collection comprises over 2,000 paintings, including works by famous artists like MF Husain, S Sayed Haider Raza, and VS Gaitonde. These paintings are valued at hundreds of crores of rupees.

According to Prem Shankar Shukla, the chief administrative officer of Bharat Bhavan, the building is almost 46 years old and requires a major overhaul. A proposal has been put forward to the Bhavan Trust, but until then, temporary measures have been taken to protect the building and its contents.
