Centre Proposes 3-Day Parliament Session

The Centre has proposed a special three-day session of Parliament from August 16 to discuss the Delimitation and Women's Reservation Amendment Bill.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to conclude on August 13, and the Centre has informed the Congress about its intention to call a special session on August 16, 17, and 18.

The government is working to secure the two-thirds majority required to pass the Constitutional Amendment Bill.

According to reports, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju sought the Congress's cooperation on the Delimitation Bill and the Women's Reservation Amendment Bill.

However, Rahul Gandhi rejected the government's request outright.

The Delimitation Bill, alongside the Women's Reservation Bill, failed to pass in the Lok Sabha during a special session in April due to a lack of two-thirds majority.

The government secured 298 votes, but fell short of the required 352 votes by a margin of 54 votes.

Since then, the numbers in the Lower House have improved for the NDA, with several Trinamool Congress MPs and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena lawmakers switching sides.

The Congress has said that it will convey its decision on the special session after consulting within the party and with other Opposition parties.
