Nashik Commissioner Orders Safety Measures Ahead Of Kumbh Mela

Nashik Municipal Corporation Commissioner Manisha Khatri conducted an on-site inspection of the Ramkund area to review preparations for the upcoming Kumbh Mela. The inspection was prompted by concerns over the safety of devotees in the area.

During the visit, Commissioner Khatri was accompanied by local corporators who brought to her attention the lack of barricading, security guards, and signage near the Devi Temple at the Godavari riverbank. The corporators informed her that a devotee had fallen into a pit excavated for drainage work near the temple yesterday, and that similar incidents had occurred previously.

Commissioner Khatri immediately directed officials to install barricades, deploy security guards, and cordon off hazardous areas to prevent such incidents in the future. She also stated that roads with a high risk of accidents would be closed and additional barricades and guards would be deployed.

The Commissioner noted that contractors had neglected safety measures, which had led to the current situation. She assured that the administration would take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of devotees during the Kumbh Mela.

With the Kumbh Mela flag-hoisting ceremony scheduled for October 31, Commissioner Khatri gave assurances that works in priority areas would be completed on time. She also addressed the issue of potholes in the area, stating that while a large number of potholes had been filled, the poor condition of internal roads persisted.

The Commissioner clarified that work being carried out by MNGL was also causing difficulties, and that a project report for internal roads was currently being prepared. Plans are in place to secure the necessary funds to complete the work.
