Bhikangaon-Jhirniya Road Construction Under Scrutiny

A 37.50-km road construction project in Bhikangaon, Madhya Pradesh, has come under scrutiny due to concerns over the quality and safety of the work. The project, which costs approximately Rs 69 lakh, is being executed by Bidal Developers.

The concerns were raised even before the completion of the project, with allegations of compromised construction quality and inadequate safety measures. Gravel is reportedly visible through the newly laid concrete at several locations, and an electricity pole remains in the middle of the road at one point.

Rajesh Chauhan, a social worker from Chiltiya village, alleged that the construction quality was being compromised due to the improper use of cement. He claimed that the cement was not being used according to the prescribed standards, resulting in the visibility of gravel at several places.

Chauhan also raised concerns over the safety measures along the under-construction road. He said that the poles on and near the road lacked reflective markings, and warning signs had not been installed to alert motorists. This, he claimed, could pose a risk to motorists, particularly at night.

The Public Works Department has taken note of the complaints and has instructed the contractor to install reflective material on the roadside poles and those located on the carriageway. The sub-divisional officer, Lokesh Chauhan, said that officials would inspect the work at the site and take action according to the rules if any deficiencies in construction quality were found.
