Rajnath Singh Launches ₹3,500 Crore Defence Projects

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for five brownfield expansion projects worth ₹3,500 crore of the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) and Yantra India Ltd in Kolkata on Sunday.

The projects are expected to boost India's shipbuilding capabilities and reduce dependence on foreign countries. Addressing the gathering, Singh highlighted the rapid developments taking place in shipbuilding technology and expressed confidence that India can become a global shipbuilding hub.

Singh also spoke about the challenges faced by the shipbuilding industry, where large warships and advanced commercial vessels take 15-20 years to develop. He noted that by the time a ship is designed and developed, some technology may become outdated.

The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, also spoke on the occasion and slammed the previous governments for not cooperating with the central government. He expressed happiness that Bengal is progressing under the current double-engine government.

Notably, GRSE had signed lease agreements with Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) for two small shipyards on either bank of the Hooghly along with a 32-acre riverside property at Raichak.

The foundation stone laying ceremony marks a significant milestone in the development of India's shipbuilding industry. The projects are expected to create new opportunities for employment and economic growth in the region.

The Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) is a leading shipbuilding company in India, with a rich history of designing and building various types of ships, including warships and commercial vessels. The company has been playing a crucial role in India's defence sector and has been expanding its capabilities to meet the growing demands of the industry.

The launch of these new projects is expected to further boost India's defence capabilities and reduce its dependence on foreign countries. The government has been taking several initiatives to promote the development of the shipbuilding industry, including the creation of a dedicated shipbuilding policy.

The development of the shipbuilding industry is also expected to have a positive impact on the economy of West Bengal. The state has been facing several challenges in recent years, including a decline in industrial activity. However, with the launch of new projects and initiatives, the state is expected to witness a new era of growth and development.

In conclusion, the launch of the five brownfield expansion projects by Rajnath Singh marks a significant milestone in the development of India's shipbuilding industry. The projects are expected to create new opportunities for employment and economic growth, and further boost India's defence capabilities.
