BMC Gen Z Fellowship Attracts 4,510 Applicants

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a 'Gen Z Fellowship Programme' to bring young professionals into civic administration. Within days of opening applications, 4,510 candidates have registered for the 50 available seats.

The programme offers a 12-month stint in civic administration, with a monthly stipend of ₹61,500. It provides hands-on exposure to policymaking, project planning, and governance, with fellows working alongside senior civic officials.

The applicants come from a wide range of backgrounds, including law, medicine, engineering, commerce, science, and the arts. The pool of applicants includes graduates with degrees such as LLB, LLM, MBBS, BA, MA, MSc, MCom, BE, and BTech.

As of now, around 2,500 candidates have submitted applications, and 530 have paid the fee. Among the fee-paying applicants, BCom graduates lead with 107, followed by 81 BE/BTech, 54 BSc, six BA, and five LLB graduates.

The eligibility criteria for the programme include being a graduate with at least 60% marks, proficiency in Marathi, working knowledge of Hindi and English, computer skills, and at least one year of full-time work experience. Relevant internships, apprenticeships, and articleships count as experience.

The applications are open until August 31, and the numbers are expected to climb further. The BMC has laid down 21 eligibility criteria for the programme, and those who have previously completed the BMC or Chief Minister's Fellowship are not eligible.

The Gen Z Fellowship Programme is modelled on Maharashtra's Chief Minister Fellowship Programme and aims to bring young and talented professionals into civic administration.
