The Tamil Nadu government has announced a new scheme called 'Thaimaman' where every baby born in a government hospital will receive a 1-gram gold ring.

The Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC) has issued work orders to two jewellers, Joy Alukkas and Kalyan Jewellers, to supply 1,28,499 gold rings required for the beneficiaries from June to September. The work orders were issued on a 70:30 ratio.

The scheme was announced by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay in the run-up to the April Assembly election. It aims to encourage deliveries in government medical facilities. Children born in government hospitals from June 22, 2026, will benefit under this scheme.
