The Panvel City Police have busted a fake loan call centre operating in Karanjade, Navi Mumbai, and arrested four persons in connection with the racket. The accused, identified as Vijay Babu Bhandari, Tushar Arun Pingle, Rohit Rangappa Gowda, and Darshan Umashankar, were allegedly cheating citizens by promising loans and demanding money under the pretext of processing fees, insurance, and other charges.

The police raided the call centre, located in a rented flat in Sector R-4, Karanjade, on August 21 and seized electronic devices, bank cards, SIM cards, and cash worth Rs 3.95 lakh. The accused were allegedly operating the racket from Room No. 401 of Nilgiri Apartment.

According to the police, the accused would contact citizens posing as representatives of different finance companies and promise quick loan approvals. They would then demand processing fees and additional amounts citing insurance, holding charges, and GST. After the victims transferred the money, the accused would allegedly fail to provide the loans and stop responding.

The police have warned citizens to be cautious of callers who promise instant loans and demand processing fees or other charges. They have advised people to verify the credentials of the financial institution and avoid transferring money to unknown bank accounts or scanners.

The seized material includes three laptops, 15 mobile phones, 31 SIM cards, seven debit cards, and Rs 74,400 in cash. The total value of the seized material is Rs 3,95,500. The police are investigating the number of people allegedly cheated by the gang and the total amount collected.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Rashmi Nandedkar and Assistant Commissioner of Police Mathur Bhujbal. The police have urged citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
