Coimbatore Student Dies After Assault Over Suspected Mobile Theft

A 20-year-old engineering student, Amuthan, died after being brutally assaulted by a group of college students in Coimbatore. The incident occurred two nights ago when Amuthan was travelling with a friend and was intercepted by a group of more than 10 students.

The students allegedly assaulted Amuthan and his friend, following which Amuthan's friend managed to escape. Amuthan, who sustained severe injuries, was taken to a hospital on a two-wheeler by his friend and another person but died on the way.

The police have arrested six students, including a 17-year-old juvenile, in connection with the assault and subsequent death of Amuthan. The arrested students are Aramuthan, Aravind, Sivarohith, Manibalu, and the 17-year-old juvenile.

According to the police, Amuthan was attacked on suspicion of stealing the mobile phone of a person named Ilavarasan. The police are currently investigating the exact motive behind the assault.

Amuthan's parents have alleged that the college administration was responsible for their son's death. The college administration has not commented on the allegations yet.

In a separate incident, two people were killed in a head-on collision between two motorcycles near Kovilpatti in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district. The deceased were identified as Arunpandian and Subburaj.
