200-Tonne Crane Collapses in Kurla, Several Injured

A 200-tonne crane collapsed while lifting a Poclain machine to the 16th floor of a building in Kurla East, Mumbai, on August 21. The incident occurred at around 2:45 am at Saharanivas Seva Sangh in Umarwadi, Qureshi Nagar, Kurla East.

The crane, manufactured by SANY, was being used to demolish Building No. 1 of Galaxy MHADA Apartment. It lost balance and overturned while hoisting the Poclain machine, causing extensive damage to nearby houses, cars, and autorickshaws.

Several people, including Abu Salem Fazlur Rehman Khan and his family members, were injured in the incident. Khan's relatives, Atikur Rehman Khan, Rehan Khan, and Nauman Khan, also suffered injuries to their hands and legs. Other residents, including Mustaq Qureshi, Nasrin Qureshi, Aarti Gaud, and Raja Gaud, were also injured.

The injured were rushed to Sion Hospital for treatment. The crane was later removed from the site, and the Chunabhatti police began an investigation. An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alleging negligence and recklessness on the part of the crane operator and contractor.
