Assam CM Sarma Announces Flood Relief Measures

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that the state government has intensified relief and rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected families.

The Chief Minister stated that fresh textbooks have been sent to all affected districts, and financial assistance for students to purchase study materials will be launched on Thursday.

Sarma shared updates after visiting flood-hit areas, saying that schools in the affected regions are scheduled to reopen on August 10. Efforts are underway to ensure that students can resume their education without further disruption.

The state government has disbursed ₹15.86 crore via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to 793 flood-affected schools across Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat. Additionally, financial assistance of over ₹4.26 crore from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) has been launched for 21,025 students in Sivasagar and Charaideo to purchase educational materials.

During his visit to flood-affected villages, the Chief Minister interacted with residents who shared their experiences of loss and displacement caused by the recent floods. He reassured them that the state government is committed to ensuring timely rehabilitation.
