Maruti Suzuki Raises Capex To ₹77,500 Crore

Maruti Suzuki India has raised its capital expenditure plan to ₹77,500 crore for the five years through FY31. This investment plan is aimed at enhancing capacity, developing new models, and promoting cleaner manufacturing.

Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi announced the investment roadmap at the company's annual general meeting. The annual capex is expected to jump 40% in FY26-27, from around ₹10,000 crore last year to ₹14,000 crore this year.

The revised plan is higher than the ₹70,000-crore investment indicated last year by Suzuki Motor Corporation President Toshihiro Suzuki. The capex will be utilized for various purposes, including capacity expansion, new model development, research and development activities, and carbon neutral measures.

Takeuchi also addressed concerns over ethanol-blended petrol, assuring that all current products are E20 compatible. In fact, Maruti Suzuki has been producing E20 compatible products since 2008.

In addition to the capex plan, Maruti Suzuki also plans to increase its in-house solar capacity from 79.1 MW in FY26 to 211.3 MW by FY31. This will cover nearly 35% of its electricity requirement. The remaining portion will be met by purchasing green electricity, mainly from solar and wind power.

The company also plans to set up biomass facilities at its Manesar, Kharkhoda, and upcoming Sanand plants. These initiatives are part of Maruti Suzuki's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable manufacturing.

The increased investment plan is a significant development for the Indian automotive industry, which is expected to drive growth and innovation in the sector. With its focus on capacity expansion, new model development, and cleaner manufacturing, Maruti Suzuki is well-positioned to maintain its leadership position in the market.

The company's commitment to sustainability is also noteworthy, with its plans to increase solar capacity and reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources. As the Indian government continues to promote sustainable development and reduce carbon emissions, Maruti Suzuki's initiatives are likely to have a positive impact on the environment.
