Kolkata Sees 16 Arrests, BJP 'Tiranga Yatra' Amid Violence

A total of 16 people have been arrested in connection with the violent student protest in Kolkata on July 24. The latest arrests were made on Monday, with 35-year-old Wakar Azam and 32-year-old Javed Akhtar being taken into custody.

The police have been investigating the incident, using video footage and digital evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events. As part of the investigation, five of the accused were taken to the Esplanade area where the violence occurred.

State minister Agnimitra Paul also spoke out, saying that miscreants are using students as scapegoats to further their own demands. She questioned how the lifting of Article 370 could be related to a student protest.

The 'Tiranga Yatra' was attended by over 25,000 Bengali nationalists, who marched from Sealdah to Dorina Crossing. The state government has also announced plans to organize a 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign across the state from August 9 to 17.
