Pune PSI Caught Taking ₹3 Lakh Bribe
A police sub-inspector was caught accepting a bribe. The officer was arrested and taken into custody.

A police sub-inspector posted at Dighi Police Station in Pimpri-Chinchwad was caught red-handed accepting a ₹3 lakh bribe inside the police station premises on Wednesday. The accused officer, Chaitali Balasaheb Gapat, had initially demanded ₹8 lakh from a 42-year-old complainant to file a ‘B’ final report in a criminal case registered against him.
According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials, the complainant approached the ACB on July 14. The ACB carried out a verification of the complaint on July 15 and found that the accused had negotiated the amount and agreed to accept ₹3 lakh.
The ACB laid a trap at Dighi Police Station and caught Gapat accepting the bribe at around 5:49 pm in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused officer has been taken into custody and a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, is being registered against her.
The operation was carried out by the Pune ACB under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande, Additional Superintendent of Police Ajit Patil, and Additional Superintendent of Police Arjun Bhosale. Police Inspector Suhas Hattekar led the trap operation, while Police Inspector Mithun Mhatre is investigating the case.
This incident comes just two days after another ACB case involving the Pimpri-Chinchwad police. On July 13, the ACB booked Assistant Police Inspector (API) Tanaji Kadam of Chakan North Police Station for allegedly demanding a ₹5 lakh bribe from a land dealer.
The Pune ACB has intensified its crackdown on alleged corruption within the Pimpri-Chinchwad police force. The ACB has appealed to citizens to immediately report any public servant or intermediary demanding a bribe beyond the prescribed government fee.
The ACB's actions are a significant step towards curbing corruption in the police force. The fact that two cases have surfaced within 48 hours highlights the need for increased vigilance and accountability within the police department.
The incident has also raised concerns about the prevalence of corruption in the police force and the need for stricter measures to prevent such incidents. The ACB's efforts to crack down on corruption are a welcome move, and it is essential that citizens cooperate with the authorities to report any instances of bribery or corruption.
In recent times, there have been several instances of police officers being caught accepting bribes, which has eroded the trust between the police and the public. The ACB's actions are a step towards restoring this trust and ensuring that the police force is accountable to the people.
The case against Gapat is currently under investigation, and further details are awaited. The ACB's crackdown on corruption is expected to continue, and it is likely that more cases will come to light in the coming days.
The incident serves as a reminder that corruption is a pervasive problem that needs to be addressed. The ACB's efforts to curb corruption are a significant step towards creating a more transparent and accountable police force. It is essential that citizens support the ACB's efforts and report any instances of corruption to ensure that the police force is free from bribery and corruption.
In conclusion, the arrest of the police sub-inspector for accepting a bribe is a significant development in the fight against corruption. The ACB's actions are a welcome move, and it is essential that citizens cooperate with the authorities to report any instances of bribery or corruption. The incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and accountability within the police department and the importance of creating a more transparent and accountable police force.
