Bangladeshi National Arrested In Kolkata Kidney Smuggling Case

A Bangladeshi national, identified as Russel Ahmed, was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police in Kolkata on Saturday night. The arrest was made in the Baguihati area, which is located in the northern outskirts of Kolkata.

According to officials, Ahmed was handed over to the Bidhannagar (South) Police Station under the Bidhannagar City Police in North 24 Parganas district. He will be presented at a district court in North 24 Parganas later in the day.

The police are currently interrogating Ahmed to obtain information about his local associates in the racket. This is not Ahmed's first arrest, as he was previously arrested in 2024 by the Delhi Police for his involvement in the same kidney smuggling racket.

At that time, it was discovered that Ahmed had entered India illegally and had managed to obtain Indian identity documents, including an Aadhaar card and a PAN card. He was living in West Bengal on rent for a long time and was involved in the kidney smuggling racket.

The STF had previously arrested another person, Prabhas Mondal, who was also involved in the kidney smuggling racket. During Mondal's interrogation, Ahmed's name came up, and it was discovered that he was playing a key role in running the cross-border racket involving both India and Bangladesh.

Mondal was arrested on August 18 based on a complaint lodged against him by the father of a victim youth, whose one kidney was operated on at a nominal price. The racket mainly targeted youth from financially backward families, who were taken to other states promising jobs and then had their kidneys operated on for a nominal amount.

During the police investigation, a rate chart was found in Ahmed's possession, as well as papers from private hospitals in different states with details of kidney requirements for these hospitals mentioned.

The arrest of Ahmed and Mondal has shed light on the magnitude of the kidney smuggling racket in India and Bangladesh. The police are still investigating the case and are working to apprehend other individuals involved in the racket.

The kidney smuggling racket is a serious issue that affects many people, particularly those from financially backward families. The arrest of Ahmed and Mondal is a significant step in the fight against this racket, and it is hoped that it will lead to the apprehension of other individuals involved.

In conclusion, the arrest of the Bangladeshi national, Russel Ahmed, in Kolkata is a significant development in the case of the cross-border kidney smuggling racket. The police are still investigating the case, and it is hoped that it will lead to the apprehension of other individuals involved and put an end to this serious issue.
