Mumbai: 2 Roof-Climbing Incidents Disrupt Central Railway

A series of alarming incidents has been reported on Central Railway in Mumbai, with two instances of people climbing onto the roofs of local trains within a span of three days.

On Wednesday evening, an unidentified person climbed onto the roof of a local train at Kanjurmarg, prompting the train to be detained and the overhead equipment (OHE) supply to be switched off at 7.58 pm as a safety precaution. The OHE was charged at 8.05 pm, after which the train departed.

A similar incident was reported at Vikhroli on the same day, highlighting the risks and dangers associated with such reckless behavior. In another incident at Ghatkopar station, a man climbed onto the roof of a local train and came perilously close to the 25 kV overhead line, suffering severe electric shock and burns.

Railway officials immediately sprang into action, cutting the power and carrying out a high-risk rescue operation. The man was subsequently rushed to a hospital for treatment. The incident at Ghatkopar occurred on August 18, when an unidentified man climbed onto a local train at platform 3 and came into contact with the OHE.

The train was detained from 6.33 pm, and the power supply on the Down Through Line between Vidyavihar and Kanjurmarg was switched off from 6.38 pm to 6.47 pm. The train was allowed to leave at 6.52 pm after the situation was brought under control.
