Ammucare Charity Expands Globally After Founder's Personal Tragedy

Mohanji's life changed forever in 2000 when his four-year-old daughter, Ammu, died in a road accident. This personal tragedy led him to establish Ammucare Charitable Trust in 2003, in her memory.

After the accident, Mohanji faced a series of challenges, including losing his job, marriage, savings, and assets. However, a saint's advice to serve the children of Mother Earth inspired him to find a new purpose. With the help of friends and family, Mohanji began serving people in need.

Ammucare's humble beginnings included annadaan, or food distribution, in Mohanji's hometown of Palakkad and blanket drives in Delhi. Despite the challenges, Ammucare has expanded its reach over two decades, spreading across more than 20 states in India. The organisation runs feeding kitchens at 13 locations, 12 Mohanji ka Aangans offering vocational education, and a Mohanji Home for Seniors. It also supports women's empowerment, environmental protection, and disaster relief.

Ammucare's global arm, ACT Foundation, was established in Dubai in 2003 and now works in more than 25 countries. The foundation has supported communities affected by war, famine, drought, and disasters in places including Ukraine, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Brazil, and the Amazon.

The organisation's aim is to help underprivileged people become self-reliant rather than dependent. Its care extends beyond humans to animals, birds, and fish. Last year, Ammucare supported the global ACT4Hunger initiative, serving meals to over seven lakh people, distributing 91 tonnes of animal food, and supplying 17 tonnes of dry rations.

Ammucare relies on worldwide donors and volunteers, with funds mainly coming through WhatsApp appeals, social media, and its annadaan app. The organisation now plans to establish more permanent centres, with Mohanji believing that complete faith attracts the people and resources needed for success.
