Mumbai Content Creator Kidnapped, Assaulted Over Anti-Betting Videos
Four arrested for kidnapping and assaulting a 28-year-old content creator. Victim had posted videos against online betting apps.

A 28-year-old content creator, Chetan Devalkar, was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted by four individuals in Powai, Mumbai, on July 26. The incident occurred after Devalkar uploaded videos on social media warning people about the dangers of online betting apps.
The accused, who promoted a betting app called 'Reel Creators' through Instagram, targeted Devalkar after he posted counter-reels. The main accused, Pratik Shinde, had been promoting the betting app for several months and allegedly threatened Devalkar via Instagram to stop posting videos against him.
Despite the threats, Devalkar continued to upload counter-reels, which led to the alleged kidnapping and assault. On July 26, Devalkar was approached by one of the accused, Yash Babare, who struck up a friendly conversation and then lured him into a black Scorpio SUV. Devalkar was allegedly forced into the vehicle, covered, and threatened with a knife.
The vehicle drove away, and two more accused joined them. A total of seven individuals allegedly assaulted Devalkar, punching and kicking him, and abusing him verbally. One of the accused allegedly hit him with a bamboo stick. The accused told Devalkar that he could earn money by promoting betting apps, but he should stop making counter-reels against them.
Fearing for his life, Devalkar agreed to comply. The accused released him at Kalamboli at around 11:35 pm. After receiving medical treatment, Devalkar approached the Powai police on August 2 and filed a complaint.
The Powai police arrested all four accused within 24 hours of registering the FIR. The arrested accused have been identified as Yash Babare, Pratik Shinde, Aniket Godase, and Sunil Kuchekar. The police are investigating the matter further.
The incident highlights the risks faced by content creators who speak out against online betting apps. Devalkar's videos had warned people about the dangers of such apps, and the alleged kidnapping and assault are a clear attempt to silence him.
The Mumbai police have been cracking down on online betting apps, and this incident is a reminder of the need for stricter regulations and laws to protect individuals from such threats.
The case is a significant one, and the swift action taken by the Powai police is commendable. The incident has sparked concern among content creators and social media users, who are calling for greater protection and support for those who speak out against online betting apps.
In conclusion, the alleged kidnapping and assault of Chetan Devalkar are a serious concern, and the Mumbai police must ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. The incident highlights the need for greater awareness and regulation of online betting apps and the importance of protecting individuals who speak out against them.
