Delhi Police Seize 59 Rolls of Illegal Chinese Manja in Arrest
Man arrested in northeast Delhi for possessing banned kite string used in dangerous aerial sports.

Law enforcement officials in Delhi have arrested a 27-year-old resident following the discovery of a large cache of prohibited Chinese manja during a targeted operation in the Seelampur area of northeast Delhi on Friday.
During the raid, police recovered 59 rolls of the banned kite string, commonly known as charkhis in local terminology. The contraband material was found in the suspect's possession, leading to his immediate detention. Authorities have registered a case against the individual as investigations into the matter continue.
Chinese manja—a glass-coated string used in kite flying—has been banned in many Indian cities due to serious safety concerns. The sharp, abrasive coating on the string has been responsible for numerous incidents involving pedestrians, two-wheeler riders, and even aircraft. The material poses particular risks during peak kite-flying seasons when the string can cause severe cuts and injuries.
Delhi Police has intensified crackdowns on the illegal sale and distribution of manja following repeated warnings from civic and safety authorities. The ban remains in effect across several states to protect public safety. This arrest underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the trade in prohibited materials that endanger citizens.
The recovered rolls have been seized as evidence, and further interrogation of the accused is underway to determine the source of the contraband and identify potential distribution networks in the region.
