Navi Mumbai Doctor Loses ₹33.30 Lakh To Fake Customs Officer

A 27-year-old doctor from Navi Mumbai was allegedly cheated of ₹33.30 lakh by a woman who posed as a Customs officer. The incident occurred between November 2023 and September 8, 2026, at Ekta Apartment in Nerul West.

The complainant, Dr Abhishek Jagdish Chinchpure, filed a complaint with the Nerul police on September 8 against Sanvi Suhas Chavan, alias Madhavi Kishor Dhembe, her husband Suhas Chavan, and her sister Mayuri Pawar. According to the complaint, Chavan falsely represented herself as a Customs officer and produced forged documents to gain the doctor's confidence.

Chavan allegedly induced the doctor to invest ₹33,30,899 in a fraudulent scheme, promising gold purchases and attractive returns. However, when the doctor demanded his money back, the accused threatened to kill him if he approached the police.

The Nerul police have registered a case against the accused under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Indian Penal Code, relating to cheating, impersonation, forgery, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy. The police are currently investigating the matter and have not recovered any property so far.
