Pune Police Arrest 2 in Plot to Attack Andekar Gang Members

Pune Police have arrested two individuals and are searching for three others in connection with a plot to attack members of the Andekar gang while they were being escorted by police from the Shivajinagar Court to Dhule and Nandurbar.

The arrested accused, Vedant Rohit Sawant and Atharva Dattatray Khopde, both 21 years old, were allegedly involved in conducting a recce to facilitate an armed attack on the Andekar gang members. The other accused, Suraj Ashok Thombre, Manav Sharad Dhamale, and Dhiraj Lakhara, are currently absconding.

According to police, the accused conspired to avenge the murders of Ayush Komkar and Ganesh Kale, and an alleged attempt to murder Akshay Mhaske, all of whom were linked to a rival gang. The Andekar gang members, Krishna Andekar, Swaraj Wadkar, and Tushar Wadkar, were being transported in a police vehicle when the accused allegedly monitored the convoy to facilitate an attack.

Investigations revealed that Sawant, Khopde, and Lakhara conducted surveillance from Shivajinagar Court to Kuroli near Chakan, sharing the convoy's location, route, and security details with Suraj Thombre over the phone. Khopde was allegedly riding an Activa scooter while carrying a country-made pistol.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Gauhar Hasan stated that the police acted on a tip-off, arresting two accused and recovering a country-made pistol. Efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused, and further investigation is in progress.
