Pune Ambulances Used For Medicine Transport
Pune Municipal Corporation accused of misusing ambulances, concerns raised over emergency services

The Pune Municipal Corporation has been accused of using ambulances to transport medicines instead of patients. This has raised concerns over emergency medical preparedness, particularly during the monsoon season.
According to allegations, ambulances attached to PMC-run hospitals were seen loading cartons and sacks of medicines at the Central Medical Store. Citizens and social activists have criticized this practice, arguing that ambulances should be reserved exclusively for transporting patients.
Social activist Rupesh Kesekar said that using ambulances for logistical work could affect emergency healthcare services. Residents have also expressed concern, saying that delays in ambulance availability could prove costly for critically ill patients or accident victims.
Critics have demanded that the PMC review the practice and ensure that ambulances are used solely for emergency patient transport. They have suggested that the civic body procure dedicated logistics vehicles instead of diverting ambulances from hospitals.
The PMC has not issued an official response to the allegations. The issue has sparked concerns over the civic body's logistics network and its impact on emergency response times.
