FIR registered for ignoring BMC notice, obstructing public movement. Developer failed to repair damaged storm water drainage chambers.

A significant development has taken place in Vikhroli, where the local police have registered an FIR against Reliable Developers, a construction company, for allegedly obstructing public movement by dumping construction material on a road and failing to repair damaged storm water drainage chambers.
According to the FIR, the complainant, Sushant Patil, a 32-year-old road engineer with the BMC S ward office, stated that the redevelopment of building no 149 at Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli East, has been underway for over a year under Reliable Developers. Patil alleged that construction material, including paving blocks, bricks, gravel, and other debris, was routinely stored on the footpath and adjoining road in front of the project, causing obstruction to pedestrians.
The BMC had issued a notice to Reliable Developers after finding that the developer had damaged the footpath as well as the storm water drainage chambers. The civic body directed the developer to immediately remove all construction materials from the footpath and repair the damaged footpath as well as the storm water drainage chambers. However, during a follow-up inspection, officials found that the developer had taken no corrective measures.
The FIR further stated that Patil, along with a junior engineer, had repeatedly instructed the developer and site representatives orally not to store construction material on the footpath. However, the instructions were allegedly ignored. A case has been booked for creating obstruction to public passage, ignoring lawful directions of a public authority, and endangering public safety.
The Vikhroli police have registered the FIR against Shakir Shaikh, proprietor of Reliable Developers, a construction site supervisor, and others. The incident highlights the importance of adhering to civic regulations and ensuring public safety.
The BMC has been actively working to ensure that construction sites in the city do not obstruct public movement or pose a risk to public safety. The civic body has been issuing notices to developers who fail to comply with regulations, and in some cases, has even taken action against them.
The incident also underscores the need for developers to prioritize public safety and adhere to civic regulations. The failure to do so can result in serious consequences, including legal action.
