Three Booked For Assault & Casteist Abuse In Pune

A person was allegedly subjected to casteist abuse, intimidation, and assault after being accused of financial embezzlement during a society meeting in Dighi, Pune.

The incident took place around 3:30 pm on Friday, August 28, at the office of Kamalraj Society and in front of Ganpati Temple on Dighi-Alandi Road.

A 42-year-old person lodged a complaint at the Dighi Police Station, stating that he was mentally humiliated by three suspects, who made derogatory statements against him.

The suspects, Mangesh Sawant, Satish Walke, and Shankar Pokharkar, all residents of Dighi, allegedly threatened and physically assaulted the complainant.

According to the police, the suspects made casteist statements in a public place, saying that the complainant had embezzled money while he was on the committee body between 2017 and 2019.

The police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Atrocities Act against the three suspects.
