Bhopal Celebrates Onam With Traditional Events

On Sunday, the United Malayalee Association (UMA) and Malayalam Mission jointly organised Onam celebrations at HEMA School in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The festivities began with a traditional welcome for King Mahabali, featuring a Chenda Melam performance and girls bearing Thalappoli.

The event also included a Thiruvathira dance performance, which is a traditional Kerala dance. The evening's entertainment featured a mix of traditional and contemporary elements, including a performance by Natyashri, a skit highlighting family values, and a group song by the UMA Ladies Wing.

In addition to the cultural performances, the celebrations included a competitive tug-of-war and an athappookalam (floral rangoli) competition. Teams created intricate designs, showcasing their creativity and skills.

Anirudh KV, a young traveller with cerebral palsy from Kerala, shared his inspiring experiences of travelling across India. His story aimed to motivate the youth to pursue their passions and overcome challenges.

The event also recognised and rewarded the achievements of meritorious students from Class 10 and 12, who received cash prizes and awards for their academic excellence.
