Bhiwandi Police Seize 500 Kg Suspected Beef, Arrest Driver

A 22-year-old man, Shahid Khan, was arrested by the Bhoiwada Police in Bhiwandi on Friday morning after approximately 500 kg of suspected beef was recovered from a car. The incident occurred at around 5 am near the Ganpati temple on Kariwali Road in Bhiwandi.

Police personnel Amol Salunkhe had signalled the driver to stop, but instead of stopping, the driver allegedly accelerated the vehicle towards Salunkhe in an attempt to hit him. The policeman managed to move to the side in time and escaped injury.

A police team subsequently chased the car and intercepted it near the Murlidhar Temple at Sutar Ali on Dargah Road. During a search of the vehicle, police recovered approximately 500 kg of meat, which they identified as beef.

The arrested accused, Shahid Khan, is a resident of Kurla East. Police are searching for his alleged associates, including Mastan Shaikh, Saddam Shaikh, Dawal Shaikh, Faheem Baba, and three other persons, in connection with the case.

According to the police, Khan and his associates had allegedly been involved in procuring meat following the slaughter of cattle and transporting it illegally for sale at Chheda Nagar Highway in Govandi.

The Bhoiwada Police have registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act and other laws. Police are continuing efforts to trace the other accused named in the case and establish the source of the seized meat and its intended destination.

Police Sub-Inspector Ramdas Kolte is conducting further investigation into the case. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of illegal meat transportation in the region.
