East Central Railway Celebrates 80th Independence Day

East Central Railway celebrated the 80th Independence Day with grandeur at its headquarters in Hajipur on August 15, 2026. The General Manager, Chhatrasal Singh, hoisted the national flag and inspected the parade by members of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Scouts and Guides.

Singh extended Independence Day greetings to railway employees, passengers, media representatives, and all others present on the occasion. The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Additional General Manager Amrendra Kumar, Principal Chief Personnel Officer Suresh Chandra Srivastava, and Principal Chief Security Commissioner Amaresh Kumar.

Office-bearers of railway unions and associations, officers, and employees of East Central Railway were also present. Sunita Singh, President of the East Central Railway Women Welfare Organisation, along with other members of the organisation, attended the celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, Singh highlighted the achievements of East Central Railway from January to July this year. The zone loaded 126 million tonnes of freight, generating revenue of Rs 15,452 crore. Passenger traffic generated around Rs 3,082 crore, taking the total originating revenue during the January-July period to more than Rs 19,000 crore.

East Central Railway also set a new benchmark in freight loading by crossing the 200-million-tonne mark for the second consecutive year. The railway introduced 19 pairs of new trains, including nine pairs of Amrit Bharat Express trains, between January and July. The routes of two pairs of trains were extended, while 30 trains were provided additional stoppages at various stations.

Under passenger amenity initiatives, eight lifts were provided at four stations, four escalators were installed at Muzaffarpur station, foot-over-bridges were provided at four stations, and platforms at 10 stations were upgraded. One platform was extended, while computerised announcement systems were installed at one station and automatic passenger information systems at 52 stations.

On infrastructure development, Singh said 26 km of track doubling, three road overbridges, and electrification of 55 track kilometres had been completed between January and July. Automatic signalling was commissioned over 249 route kilometres, while Kavach equipment was installed over 256 route kilometres.

The Independence Day celebrations also featured a demonstration by the RPF's canine squad, which showcased various skills related to passenger safety and security at railway stations and on trains. Artists of East Central Railway presented a colourful cultural programme infused with patriotic themes.
