Navi Mumbai Hospital Probes Expired Saline Claim
Family alleges expired saline administered, NMMC orders inquiry. Patient died Thursday morning.

A 52-year-old man, Gopiram Khadse, died on Thursday morning at Hiranandani (Fortis) Hospital in Navi Mumbai. His family has alleged that his condition worsened after he was administered an expired saline solution at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Hospital in Vashi.
Khadse was admitted to the NMMC Hospital on August 31 after experiencing fever and dizziness. Following preliminary treatment, he was admitted to a ward. However, his condition reportedly deteriorated from the afternoon of September 1.
The family claims that an expired saline solution was administered to Khadse during his treatment at the civic hospital. According to his son, Ajay Khadse, after around 80 per cent of the saline had entered his father's body, he developed rashes and itching across his body, following which his condition worsened.
The NMMC Hospital administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Dr Ravindra Mhatre, medical superintendent of the Vashi Hospital, said the relatives had complained regarding the alleged administration of expired saline. He added that senior officials have also been informed about the incident.
Dr Jayaji Nath, chairman of the NMMC Health Committee, said Khadse had been diagnosed with dengue and his platelet count had fallen to around 40,000, which could also have contributed to the seriousness of his condition. The exact cause of Khadse's death will be established only after the inquiry.
The family has demanded action against those responsible for allegedly administering the expired saline. On Wednesday, the relatives, along with Bajrang Dal workers, staged a sit-in protest at the Vashi civic hospital, demanding an investigation and action against the concerned doctor, nurse and other staff members.
The incident has raised concerns about the quality of medical care at the NMMC Hospital. The civic body has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken.
The NMMC Hospital is a major healthcare facility in Navi Mumbai, providing medical services to a large population. The incident has sparked fears about the safety of patients at the hospital.
The family's allegations have also highlighted the need for greater transparency and accountability in the healthcare system. The inquiry ordered by the NMMC Hospital is expected to reveal the truth behind the incident and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
The incident is a reminder of the importance of ensuring the quality of medical care and the need for hospitals to follow proper protocols and procedures. The NMMC Hospital has assured that it will take all necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
In conclusion, the incident at the NMMC Hospital in Vashi has raised concerns about the quality of medical care and the need for greater transparency and accountability in the healthcare system.
