UIDAI Launches Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new software development kit (SDK) to simplify Aadhaar face authentication for banks and other partner institutions. This technology is expected to ease longstanding geofencing restrictions that have limited Aadhaar authentication for Indians travelling or living overseas.

UIDAI Chairman Neelkanth Mishra announced the initiative at the Global Fintech Fest 2026, being held at Mumbai’s Jio World Centre. The SDK will allow partner banks and businesses to conduct Aadhaar authentication locally on their own servers instead of routing every request through UIDAI’s central infrastructure.

Mishra said that under this model, banks would be responsible for securing their local authentication process. Any exposure arising from that process would not extend to UIDAI’s central systems. He also mentioned that removing geofencing without adequate protection could make critical infrastructure vulnerable.

UIDAI faces hundreds of cyberattacks daily and has built safeguards to protect its systems. Aadhaar authentication volumes have climbed from nearly seven crore transactions a day a few years ago to around 10 crore currently. UIDAI is now preparing its infrastructure to process between 25 crore and 30 crore authentications daily.

More than 600 entities currently use the platform, while the Aadhaar mobile application is approaching six crore downloads. The Telangana Police is encouraging the use of the Aadhaar app for several verification processes, supporting wider downloads and adoption.

Describing Aadhaar as a database, Mishra said UIDAI’s focus remained on securely managing the identity information of 1.44 billion people and providing trusted digital infrastructure without expanding beyond its core role. Jitendra Gupta, founder and chief executive of Jupiter, said Aadhaar had been a major benefit for India’s fintech industry.

Aadhaar has reduced friction during customer onboarding and helped companies provide smoother digital-first services. The new SDK is expected to further enhance the security and convenience of Aadhaar authentication. With the increasing use of Aadhaar, UIDAI is working to ensure that its infrastructure can handle the growing demand.

The launch of the new SDK is a significant step towards improving the efficiency and security of Aadhaar authentication. It will enable banks and other partner institutions to provide better services to their customers while ensuring the security of their data.

In conclusion, the launch of the new Aadhaar face authentication SDK is a major development in the field of digital identity verification. It is expected to have a significant impact on the way banks and other institutions authenticate their customers, and will help to further secure the Aadhaar ecosystem.

The new SDK is a testament to UIDAI’s commitment to providing secure and convenient digital identity verification services to the people of India. With its launch, UIDAI is taking a major step towards achieving its goal of providing trusted digital infrastructure to the country.

Overall, the launch of the new Aadhaar face authentication SDK is a positive development that is expected to have a significant impact on the digital identity verification landscape in India. It will help to improve the security and convenience of Aadhaar authentication, and will enable banks and other institutions to provide better services to their customers.

The significance of this development cannot be overstated. It is a major step forward in the field of digital identity verification, and is expected to have a lasting impact on the way banks and other institutions authenticate their customers. With the launch of the new SDK, UIDAI is once again demonstrating its commitment to providing secure and convenient digital identity verification services to the people of India.

In the coming days, we can expect to see a significant increase in the use of Aadhaar face authentication, as banks and other institutions begin to adopt the new SDK. This will help to further secure the Aadhaar ecosystem, and will provide a more convenient and efficient way for customers to authenticate their identities.

The launch of the new Aadhaar face authentication SDK is a major milestone in the development of digital identity verification in India. It is a testament to the country’s commitment to providing secure and convenient digital services to its citizens, and is expected to have a lasting impact on the way banks and other institutions authenticate their customers.
