China Issues Storm Alert For Beijing, Hebei

A heavy storm alert has been issued for Beijing and Hebei Province in China, with torrential rains expected to hit parts of northern China from Friday to Monday. The Ministry of Emergency Management has warned of possible geological disasters due to the influence of the southwest monsoon and Typhoon Bavi.

The typhoon is expected to bring 300-350 mm of rainfall to some areas of Beijing and Hebei, prompting the ministry to ask authorities to deploy rescue teams and supplies. Typhoon Bavi is moving towards China's east coast, carrying maximum sustained winds of 155 kmph.

The typhoon was initially expected to pass north of Taiwan, but its current north-western track is expected to take it over remote Japanese islands before passing north of Taiwan on Saturday. It is forecast to make landfall in China on Saturday night, south of Shanghai, near the border between Fujian and Zhejiang provinces.

More than 17,000 people have been evacuated in Zhejiang, while 170,000 rescue workers have been placed on standby. Fujian has suspended some ferry routes due to strong winds and rough seas and called on fishing boats to return to ports.

Typhoon Bavi weakened after reaching super typhoon strength earlier this week, when it brought violent winds to Saipan and other US territories in the Pacific. The storm is the latest in a series of deadly storms that have claimed 50 lives in China this week.

In southern China, authorities reported 39 deaths in flooding caused by Tropical Storm Maysak, which drenched parts of the Guangxi region for days with record rainfall. The floods breached reservoirs, including the collapse of part of a dam in Hengzhou that flooded a wide area with fast-flowing muddy water.

Another 11 people died in central China after severe thunderstorms and tornadoes hit Hubei province on Monday night. A landslide killed 21 forestry workers in western China's Gansu province on Tuesday in a disaster unrelated to the storms.

The Chinese government has directed government departments to prepare for emergency responses to possible geological disasters. The storm alert has been issued to ensure the safety of people in the affected regions.

The situation is being closely monitored, with rescue teams and supplies being deployed to affected areas. The government has also asked authorities to step up inspections and early warning measures to minimize the impact of the storm.

The storm is expected to have a significant impact on the region, with heavy rains and strong winds causing damage to infrastructure and disrupting daily life. The Chinese government is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of its citizens and minimize the damage caused by the storm.

In conclusion, the storm alert issued for Beijing and Hebei Province is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of people in the affected regions. The Chinese government is taking all necessary steps to prepare for the storm and minimize its impact. The situation is being closely monitored, and rescue teams are on standby to respond to any emergencies that may arise.
