A century-old house in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, collapsed on Thursday, killing six members of a family and injuring one. The incident occurred at around 2:00 am in the Mahuli area of the Kotwali Nagar region.

The house, which belonged to Pramod Srivastava, was in a dilapidated condition and had a roof constructed using an old building technique. According to District Magistrate Abhishek Pandey, the roof collapsed due to its outdated method of construction.

All seven family members were sleeping in the same room when the tragedy occurred. The room had an air-conditioner installed, and the family was asleep when the roof suddenly collapsed. Neighbour Poonam Srivastava said that the entire family was asleep when the roof collapsed, and the debris from the upper floor fell on them.

District Magistrate Abhishek Pandey and Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar visited the site and met the lone survivor, Aman Srivastava. Pandey said that out of the seven people sleeping in the room, six were killed, and Aman survived and is currently under clinical observation.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. He took to social media to say that the loss of life in the unfortunate accident is deeply saddening and prayed to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed souls a place at his holy feet and a speedy recovery to the injured.

The officials have assured all possible assistance to the family and are standing firmly with them in this difficult time. The incident is a tragic reminder of the importance of maintaining old buildings and ensuring public safety.
