Beed Woman Dies By Suicide Over Dowry, Infertility Harassment

A 22-year-old woman, Vaishnavi, died by suicide in Beed after allegedly facing severe physical and mental harassment from her husband and in-laws over her inability to conceive and failure to bring ₹10 lakh from her parents to purchase a Mahindra Scorpio SUV.

The incident occurred on August 27, when Vaishnavi consumed a poisonous substance at her marital home in Ghodka Rajuri, Beed tehsil. She was rushed to Deep Hospital and later referred to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for advanced treatment, where she succumbed to her injuries on August 28.

According to police, Vaishnavi had been married to Sachin Navnath Rahade for 18 months. The marriage was reportedly cordial for the first year, but her in-laws began harassing her over her inability to conceive. They also claimed that they had received inadequate dowry and demanded ₹10 lakh from Vaishnavi's parents to purchase a Scorpio.

Despite Vaishnavi's parents holding a meeting with the in-laws and explaining their financial constraints, the alleged harassment continued. The in-laws allegedly threatened to abandon Vaishnavi if the demand was not met.

Following a complaint lodged by Vaishnavi's family, Pimpalner police registered a case against four persons, including her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law. Vaishnavi's husband, Sachin Navnath Rahade, has been arrested, while a manhunt has been launched to trace the remaining three accused.

The police have booked the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including abetment of suicide, dowry death, and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.

Vaishnavi's last rites were performed under tight police security at Ghodka Rajuri on August 30. The incident has highlighted the ongoing issue of dowry harassment and infertility-related abuse in Indian society.
