Navi Mumbai Police Arrest 5 In Gavhan Robbery, Recover ₹8.65 Lakh

A major breakthrough was achieved by the Ulwe police in Navi Mumbai on August 31, 2026, as they arrested five members of a gang involved in the robbery of a 53-year-old woman living alone at Gavhan village on August 18.

The accused were identified through CCTV footage and technical analysis, which led to the recovery of vehicles, mobile phones, and cash worth ₹8.65 lakh allegedly linked to the crime.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rohit Shantaram Malusare, Suraj Raju Gaikwad, Dipesh Suresh Bhoir, Pravin Sadanand Koli, and Farhan Altaf Sheikh.

The robbery took place in the early hours of August 18, when the gang allegedly entered the house of Shevanta Dhaya Koli by removing the roof tiles. When Koli woke up and resisted, one of the robbers allegedly held a knife to her neck and threatened to kill her.

The accused then allegedly fled with gold ornaments and ₹2 lakh in cash, collectively worth around ₹9 lakh.

Following the registration of the case at Ulwe police station, Senior Police Inspector Arjun Rajane and Police Inspector (Crime) Ashwini Patil directed Assistant Police Inspectors Suresh Kharat and Tushar Bachhav and their team to investigate the case.

The team examined CCTV footage from the area and conducted technical analysis to trace the suspects.

During the investigation, the police learnt that two suspects were in Badlapur. A team was sent to the location and detained them along with the car allegedly used in the robbery.

Based on information obtained from the two suspects, the police subsequently detained three more persons from Gavhan village.

The police seized a Honda Jazz car worth ₹4 lakh, a KTM motorcycle worth ₹2 lakh, an Access scooter worth ₹75,000, a Realme mobile phone, two Oppo mobile phones, an iPhone 16, and ₹45,000 in cash.

The total value of the seized property is ₹8.65 lakh.

Four accused are still absconding, and efforts are underway to recover the remaining property allegedly looted from the victim and arrest the remaining accused involved in the crime.

According to the police, Malusare has 17 cases registered against him at various police stations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including theft, robbery, house-breaking, and possession of weapons.

Gaikwad has two house-breaking cases registered against him at Bhosari police station.

This arrest is a significant achievement for the Navi Mumbai police, demonstrating their commitment to solving crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.
