200 PMAY Families Protest Eviction in MP's Ratlam

More than 200 residents of the Dosigaon Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) housing complex in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, staged a protest outside the Collector's Office on Wednesday.

The protest was sparked by an eviction drive launched by the Municipal Corporation against families that had not deposited their outstanding dues.

The residents were demanding relief and a halt to the eviction proceedings.

A stone-pelting incident involving municipal staff had occurred two days earlier, and police accompanied the municipal team during the eviction drive.

They then raised slogans against the Municipal Corporation administration and demanded that it halt the proceedings.

Congress leader Paras Saklecha reached the spot and spoke with the residents, opposing the action against poor families during the rainy season.

He demanded that the authorities postpone the drive, and a heated exchange took place between Saklecha and the Municipal Corporation Commissioner.

The Dosigaon PMAY (Urban) project was developed to provide permanent housing to eligible EWS and LIG families.

The Municipal Corporation had issued notices to beneficiaries with pending dues and given them opportunities to make payments before initiating action.

The Corporation stated that beneficiaries must pay the prescribed contributions and applicable charges under the allotment conditions.

The protest highlights the struggles of low-income families in paying their dues and the need for relief measures.

The situation was monitored by the CSP, DSP, and Station House Officers.

The protest ended with no resolution, leaving the families uncertain about their future.

The incident raises questions about the implementation of the PMAY scheme and the support provided to beneficiaries.
