Nashik Ganesh Mandals to Promote MahaSimhastha 2027

The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) has proposed a unique initiative to promote the MahaSimhastha Kumbh Mela 2027.

The authority has challenged Ganesh Mandals in Nashik to become ambassadors for the upcoming Kumbh Mela. This proposal was discussed at a meeting of major Ganesh Mandals from Nashik city and district, held at the District Collector’s Office.

NTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh chaired the meeting, which was attended by Additional Commissioner Kamlakar Randive, Tehsildar Yogesh Chandre, and representatives of Ganesh Mandals, including Nashik Ganesh Mandals Association president Samir Shete.

Under the proposed ‘MahaSimhastha Ganesh Mandal Challenge’, Ganesh Mandals will be encouraged to create Kumbh-themed decorations, installations, awareness programmes, and community initiatives during Ganeshotsav.

The challenge includes seven themes, such as the spiritual significance of Kumbh and Amrit, Nashik-Trimbakeshwar’s heritage, and a green and sustainable Kumbh.

The initiative aims to take the MahaSimhastha message beyond traditional Kumbh venues and into neighbourhoods across Nashik.

The evaluation framework will focus on relevance to the MahaSimhastha theme, originality, creativity, execution, public engagement, and impact, as well as sustainability and scope for replication.

Five main award categories have been proposed, with a prize of ₹2 lakh each, and a Jury’s Special Recognition for Originality carrying a prize of ₹5 lakh.

Registration for the challenge will remain open until September 10, 2026.

The proposed mechanism includes registration of participating Mandals, outreach through Ganesh Mandal federations and local organisations, orientation meetings, and creative knowledge sharing.

This initiative has been designed to provide opportunities to Mandals of different sizes, with greater emphasis on innovative ideas, community participation, and sustainable execution.

The MahaSimhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 is expected to be a significant event, and the involvement of Ganesh Mandals will help to promote it and create awareness among the public.
