Madhya Pradesh Issues Orange Alert For Heavy Rainfall

The southwest monsoon has been active in Madhya Pradesh since the beginning of July, with continuous rainfall over the last six days pushing the state's average rainfall to nearly 7 inches. This has reduced the rainfall deficit to just 1% below normal, a significant improvement from the 33% deficit recorded by the end of June.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several districts have been issued heavy to very heavy rainfall alerts. An orange alert for very heavy rainfall has been issued for Guna, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Sagar, and Chhatarpur, while heavy rainfall is likely in Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Shivpuri, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Panna, Satna, Maihar, Damoh, Katni, Jabalpur, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Sehore, Harda, Agar Malwa, Rajgarh, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, and Barwani.
The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in Sheopur, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol, Anuppur, Umaria, Dindori, Mandla, Balaghat, Seoni, Narsinghpur, Bhopal, Shajapur, Dewas, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Khargone, Indore, Ujjain, Neemuch, Mandsaur, and Ratlam. Sheopur recorded the highest rainfall at 1.25 inches, followed by Khajuraho and Mandla at 1 inch, and Nowgong and Damoh at 0.75 inch.
The continuous rainfall has led to a significant drop in day temperatures, with Malajkhand recording the lowest maximum temperature at 26°C. Among the state's five major cities, Jabalpur was the coolest at 31.3°C, followed by Bhopal at 33.4°C, Indore at 33.8°C, Ujjain at 34°C, and Gwalior at 36.7°C.
The weather forecast for the next two days indicates that the rainfall is likely to continue, with an orange alert issued for Bhind, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Tikamgarh, and Sagar on July 8. A heavy rain alert has been issued for Morena, Gwalior, Datia, Niwari, Chhatarpur, Damoh, Katni, Jabalpur, Seoni, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Narmadapuram, Raisen, Vidisha, Bhopal, Sehore, and Rajgarh.
The IMD has advised residents to be prepared for the heavy rainfall and to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The state government has also been alerted to be prepared for any emergency situations that may arise due to the heavy rainfall.
