Labourer Killed in School Roof Collapse

A tragic incident occurred in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday, when the roof of a dilapidated school building collapsed during demolition work, resulting in the death of one labourer and injuring another. The incident took place in Kantoura village under the Patan police station area, where workers were demolishing the old building of Kantoura Government Middle School.

According to reports, the deceased labourer, Manoj Prajapati, a resident of Nunser, was buried under the rubble, while another worker, Pawan, sustained injuries. The roof suddenly collapsed, trapping the two labourers under the debris. A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing the deceased trapped in the debris.

The Dial 112 team quickly responded to the incident and rushed the injured labourer to a hospital for treatment. The police also reached the spot, registered a case of accidental death, and sent Prajapati's body for post-mortem examination. The school building had been declared unsafe two years ago, and classes were shifted to another building. The demolition work was being carried out to bring down the old structure.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of workers engaged in demolition and construction activities. The authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse and will take necessary actions to prevent such incidents in the future. The family of the deceased labourer will likely receive compensation and support from the government.

The incident is a reminder of the risks and dangers faced by labourers in the construction industry. The government and contractors must ensure that safety protocols are in place to protect workers from accidents and injuries. Further details about the incident are awaited, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the roof collapse.

In recent times, there have been several incidents of labourers being injured or killed in construction-related accidents in Madhya Pradesh. The state government has been taking steps to improve safety standards and provide compensation to the families of victims. However, more needs to be done to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety and well-being of labourers engaged in construction activities.

As the investigation into the incident continues, the authorities are urging contractors and builders to take necessary precautions to prevent such accidents. The incident has also highlighted the need for regular safety inspections and monitoring of construction sites to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of workers. The family of the deceased labourer and the injured worker are receiving support and assistance from the authorities and local organizations.
