Four MP Medical Colleges Get LINAC Machines

Four medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh have received Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machines, which are used for radiation therapy in cancer treatment. The machines have been installed at medical colleges in Indore, Jabalpur, Rewa, and Gwalior. However, Gandhi Medical College (GMC) in Bhopal is still awaiting the arrival of the machine.

The LINAC machines are high-end devices that cost Rs 46.7 crore each and come with a four-year warranty. The warranty also covers maintenance for four years, worth Rs 4.4 crore. The Madhya Pradesh Public Health Services Corporation Limited (MPPHSCL) will receive 3% of the total cost for its services.

Special bunkers have been constructed in the hospitals attached to these medical colleges to house the LINAC machines. These bunkers are essential for radiation safety. The installation and necessary technical procedures for the machines will be carried out soon.

Once the machines become operational, cancer patients will be able to access state-of-the-art radiation treatment at government hospitals. Currently, patients have to rely on private hospitals for linear accelerator radiation therapy.

According to Dr Shyamji Rawat, HOD oncology at the state cancer institute (NSCB Medical College), it will take six months for the LINAC machine to become operational. The machine has arrived in parts and will be assembled.
