Mumbai Trains Run Late Due to Rains

Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday, July 8, causing disruptions to local train services on the Western Line. The Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer, Vineet Abhishek, stated that waterlogging between Vasai, Nalasopara, and Virar led to trains running 25-30 minutes late.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the Southwest Monsoon will cover the entire country within the next two to three days, with extremely heavy rainfall expected in parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. In Mumbai, the Vihar Lake, one of the seven reservoirs supplying water to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area, began overflowing at 9 pm due to sustained heavy rainfall.

The BMC reported that water levels in the remaining six reservoirs are also rising due to continuous rainfall. Despite the challenges, Western Railway teams are working round the clock to ensure safe and smooth train operations. Passengers are advised to check the latest train status before commencing their journey.

The IMD has issued an 'orange alert' for Mumbai, warning of potential disruptions due to heavy rainfall. Akasa Air has also issued a travel advisory, warning of potential flight delays in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Goa. The airline advised passengers to check the latest flight status before traveling.

The heavy rainfall has caused inconvenience to commuters, with trains towards CSMT running 8-10 minutes behind schedule, and delays on the Panvel-bound route being even longer. However, all Mumbai Suburban train services are operating normally on the Churchgate–Virar section, with the Railways working to minimize disruptions.

As the monsoon season continues, Mumbai residents can expect more rainfall in the coming days. The BMC and Western Railway are working to ensure that essential services remain operational, despite the challenges posed by the heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecast and train schedules to plan their journeys accordingly.

In addition to the disruptions to train services, the heavy rainfall has also led to waterlogging in various parts of the city. The Western Railway has restricted the speed of trains on the affected sections, but is working to maintain connectivity between Churchgate and Virar, and between Virar and Dahanu. The Railways is also trying to run as many trains as possible, despite the challenges posed by the waterlogging.

As the situation continues to unfold, Mumbai residents are advised to exercise caution and plan their journeys carefully. The city's infrastructure is being put to the test by the heavy rainfall, but the authorities are working to minimize disruptions and ensure that essential services remain operational.
