Army Helicopter Rescues 50 in Satna Floods

A severe flood-like situation has developed in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh after approximately 5 inches of rainfall pounded the district in just 3-4 hours. The heavy downpour led to the swelling of the Mandakini River, which overflowed and caused widespread flooding in five tehsils: Majhgawan, Nagod, Birsinghpur, Raghurajnagar, and Kothi.

The district administration officials reported that around 50 people were rescued from 12 severely flood-hit villages using an Army helicopter. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams were also deployed for rescue operations.

The breach of the Gorgi Dam and the overflowing of the Mandakini River have led to water inundating several areas, including residential areas. A bridge spanning approximately 300 meters at Chitrakoot's Ramghat was washed away due to the strong currents.

To ease the pressure, all eight sluice gates of the Bansujara dam were opened. The Satna-Chitrakoot region is facing the brunt of heavy rainfall, with rivers and streams overflowing and creating flood-like situations.

Satna collector Satish Kumar S informed that the rescued people were from 12 severely flood-hit villages. The collector also reported that almost 4-5 inches of rainfall were recorded in just 3-4 hours, leading to a flood-like situation in the district.
