UP Orders Transport Safety Measures for Raksha Bandhan

The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated extensive preparations to ensure safe and smooth travel for passengers, particularly women, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's announcement of free bus travel for women, the Transport Department has directed better maintenance of buses operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC).

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Transport Dayashankar Singh has instructed substance-free operations by drivers and strict compliance with traffic rules. Verification of private bus, taxi, and e-rickshaw drivers will also be conducted to ensure the safety of women.

The Transport Minister thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the decision to provide free travel facilities for women on Raksha Bandhan. He stated that considering the large number of women and families expected to travel during the festival, the transport system should remain safe, simple, and convenient.

Departmental officials have been directed to ensure strict compliance with government guidelines. Operators of private buses running during Raksha Bandhan have been directed to ensure police/character verification of drivers and conductors.

Records related to the verification process will also be maintained. Taxi and e-rickshaw operators have likewise been instructed to allow only verified and competent drivers to operate vehicles.

All transport operators have been directed to carry passengers strictly according to the prescribed passenger capacity. Action will be taken against operators carrying passengers beyond the permitted capacity.

Transport officials have been instructed to remain active in the field during the festival and monitor arrangements. The Transport Minister stated that no driver or conductor should be on duty under the influence of intoxicants.

Mandatory checks must be conducted before duty. If any case of performing or allowing duty under the influence comes to light, action will be taken against the concerned person.

Directions have been issued to ensure effective implementation of road safety measures, route diversions, and traffic regulations in coordination with the district administration and police.

Vehicle speed limits will be monitored, and action will be taken against overspeeding. Strict enforcement will also be carried out against unauthorized transportation of passengers in goods vehicles or tractor-trolleys, overloading, and operations in violation of rules.

The Transport Department and concerned officials will work in coordination with the police and district administration to monitor road safety arrangements during the festival.

The Transport Minister said that movement of passengers, including women and children, will increase during Raksha Bandhan. Therefore, the fitness and technical condition of all buses should be inspected in advance.

The Uttar Pradesh government's initiative to ensure safe and smooth travel for women on Raksha Bandhan is a significant step towards promoting road safety and convenience for passengers.

This move is expected to have a positive impact on the overall travel experience for women and families during the festival, and it reflects the government's commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for all citizens.

In conclusion, the Uttar Pradesh government's efforts to ensure safe travel for women on Raksha Bandhan demonstrate a proactive approach to addressing the concerns of citizens and promoting road safety.

This initiative is a welcome step towards creating a more secure and convenient travel experience for all passengers, particularly women, during the festival.
