Dilip Kumar

Golden Age 1944–1998

Born Muhammad Yusuf Khan, Dilip Kumar was hailed as the “Tragedy King” and is widely regarded as one of the greatest actors in Indian cinema. His restrained, deeply naturalistic style influenced generations of performers who followed. Across five decades he defined the tortured romantic hero and the dignified everyman alike.

Honours: Record 8 Filmfare Best Actor awards; Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1994); Padma Vibhushan.
