Nana Patekar

Nana Patekar is a veteran Indian actor known for his intense screen presence and distinctive, staccato delivery, working across Hindi and Marathi cinema. He rose to prominence with acclaimed performances in Parinda (1989) and Krantiveer (1994), the latter winning him the National Film Award for Best Actor. Equally effective in gritty dramas and mainstream entertainers, he broadened his appeal with the hit comedy Welcome and the political drama Raajneeti, before delivering a celebrated late-career performance in the Marathi film Natsamrat. He is widely regarded as one of the most respected character actors of his generation and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013.

He made his film debut in 1978 with Muzaffar Ali's Gaman, having come up through Marathi theatre before establishing himself in Hindi cinema.
He served in the Indian Territorial Army, commissioned as a captain in 1988 and serving during the 1999 Kargil War, before retiring in 2013 with the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
In 2015 he co-founded the Naam Foundation, alongside actor Makarand Anaspure, to support drought-affected and distressed farmers in Maharashtra.
