Ex-Inspector, Constable Booked In ₹1.2 Lakh Bribe Case

A former Crime Branch inspector and a constable are among four individuals booked for allegedly demanding a ₹1.2 lakh bribe from a woman in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

The case was registered on Monday by the Lokayukta, Special Police Establishment, Indore unit. The accused have been identified as former Crime Branch inspector Sujeet Srivastava, constable Vikas Sendhav, private driver Abhay Singh, and private individual Deepak Patel.

According to the complaint filed by Preeti Hajari, a resident of Tulsi Nagar, her son Pranjal Hajari was called to the Indore Crime Branch office regarding a complaint filed by a woman. She alleged that inspector Sujeet Srivastava and other officials demanded ₹1.2 lakh to drop the complaint and release her son.

On March 20, the complainant said she was made to transfer ₹50,800 through UPI to Deepak Patel at the Crime Branch office at Regal Square. Pranjal was released after this, and the remaining ₹70,000 was collected in cash the next day.

After the complaint was filed on April 2, Lokayukta officials investigated and verified the details. The complainant also submitted technical and digital evidence with her application. Inspector Ashutosh Mithas said that after checking the technical evidence, the allegations were found to be true.

A case was registered against the accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 61(2) of the BNS. Further investigation is underway.

Sujeet Srivastava, the former Crime Branch inspector, was previously suspended in a gambling case. He was then posted as an inspector in the Crime Branch but was sent to the police lines due to complaints and is currently attached to the Reserve Line.

The registration of the case against the four individuals, including a former Crime Branch inspector and a constable, highlights the efforts of the Lokayukta to curb corruption in the state.
