BJP MLA Threatens Protest Over ₹500 Crore Road Loan Delay

A dispute has erupted among the ruling Mahayuti alliance partners in Mira-Bhayander over the alleged delay in approving a ₹500 crore loan for road development.

On August 6, 2026, BJP MLA Narendra Mehta alleged that the approval of the loan, required for the concrete road development of the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, has been stalled for the last two years.

Mehta warned that if the loan file is not approved urgently, a 'Rasta Roko' (road blockade) protest will be staged at 11 am on Monday, August 10, at the Fountain Hotel junction on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway.

He stated that the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation itself will repay the loan, and questioned why obstacles are being created in approving it. Mehta also claimed that due to a lack of funds, contractors have stopped work, leading to potholes on the roads.

Mehta discussed the matter with the Chief Minister, who assured him that a meeting would be called soon. He also launched a strong attack on Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik.

The Shiv Sena responded to Mehta's aggressive stance, with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde clarifying that information regarding why the loan approval was halted would be gathered.

Minister Pratap Sarnaik hit back at Mehta, alleging that since the Shiv Sena took a stand in the public interest, Mehta has become restless.
