MRVC Celebrates 27th Annual Day

Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) recently celebrated its 27th Annual Day, recognizing outstanding performance and honoring its staff and projects. The event was attended by former CMDs, MDs, and Directors, as well as serving officers and staff.

The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, led by Vilas Wadekar, Chairman and Managing Director of MRVC. The occasion also saw the felicitation of former CMDs, MDs, and Directors for their contribution to MRVC's growth and development.

In his keynote address, Wadekar highlighted MRVC's achievements over the past year, including the completion of infrastructure works at Khar Road station, which has set new benchmarks in accessibility and commuter convenience. He also noted that four more stations - Mira Road, Kandivali, Neral, and Kasara - were improved during the year.

Wadekar also spoke about the progress made on the Panvel-Karjat new suburban corridor, which is expected to provide an important new suburban rail connection and support regional growth. He also highlighted the completion of critical infrastructure works at Virar station, which will facilitate 15-car EMU services on the Virar-Dahanu Road section.

The MRVC has also made significant progress in innovative engineering, including the construction of India's first waterproof pedestrian subway beneath seven operational railway lines at Bhiwandi. The subway provides a safe and durable crossing, and has helped curb trespassing in the area.

Looking ahead, Wadekar stated that two major projects under MUTP-3B - the Badlapur-Karjat 3rd and 4th lines and the Asangaon-Kasara 4th line - have been sanctioned, further expanding the suburban rail network. The MRVC has also floated a tender for the procurement of 238 air-conditioned EMU rakes, with bid opening scheduled in August 2026.

Wadekar attributed the year's achievements to the dedication of MRVC employees and the continued support of the Ministry of Railways and the Government of Maharashtra. The event also saw the presentation of 37 individual awards for meritorious service during 2025-26, as well as the Rolling Shield jointly awarded to two project units for exemplary work.

The MRVC's efforts to improve the suburban railway network in Mumbai are significant, given the city's growing population and increasing demand for efficient and reliable public transportation. The corporation's focus on innovative engineering and customer convenience is expected to have a positive impact on commuters and the city's overall development.

As Mumbai continues to grow and evolve, the importance of a well-planned and efficient public transportation system cannot be overstated. The MRVC's work in this area is crucial, and its achievements over the past year are a testament to its commitment to improving the lives of Mumbaikars.

In conclusion, the MRVC's 27th Annual Day was a celebration of its achievements and a recognition of its staff and projects. The corporation's continued efforts to improve the suburban railway network in Mumbai are expected to have a lasting impact on the city and its residents.

The MRVC's plans for the future, including the procurement of new air-conditioned EMU rakes and the expansion of the suburban rail network, are also expected to improve the commuting experience for Mumbaikars. As the city continues to grow and develop, the importance of a reliable and efficient public transportation system will only continue to grow.

Overall, the MRVC's 27th Annual Day was a significant event that highlighted the corporation's achievements and its commitment to improving the lives of Mumbaikars. The event was a celebration of the corporation's staff and projects, and a recognition of its importance in the development of Mumbai's public transportation system.
