Madhya Pradesh To Have 1,000 Tigers By Next Census: CM Mohan Yadav

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the state is likely to have nearly 1,000 tigers by the next tiger census. This statement was made on International Tiger Day, which was celebrated on Tuesday.

As per the 2022 tiger census, Madhya Pradesh had 785 tigers, and the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the number would rise to nearly 1,000 in the upcoming count.

The state's efforts in conserving tigers and other wildlife are notable, with Bhopal and its surrounding areas being one of the few places in the world where tigers live in close proximity to humans.

In addition to tiger conservation, the state is also working to protect gharials in rivers. The government is ensuring that the reptiles released in Madhya Pradesh remain protected within the state.

The state has also started wildlife exchange initiatives with other states, which has led to positive results in reducing human deaths caused by elephants.

During the state-level programme organised to mark International Tiger Day, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Shubharanjan Sen said that protecting tigers is directly linked to protecting nature and human life.

A healthy forest is one where tigers, tigresses, and their cubs live safely, according to Sen.

The Chief Minister inaugurated new vehicles for wildlife protection, visited an exhibition on conservation efforts, released departmental publications, unveiled teasers of wildlife management documentaries, and honoured Padma Shri awardees associated with the State Wildlife Board.

The event also saw the felicitation of members of forest protection committees, eco-development committees, village forest committees, and forest personnel for their contribution to wildlife conservation.

Students from schools and colleges also participated in the event, which aimed to raise awareness about the importance of tiger conservation.
