NMMC Sets Up Help Desk For PM-JAY Beneficiaries

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has decided to set up a help desk at either its Vashi or Nerul municipal hospital to assist beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana.

This move is aimed at resolving difficulties faced by citizens while accessing treatment and other benefits under the schemes. The help desk will provide guidance and support to beneficiaries, ensuring they can avail of the benefits without any hassle.

Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde has directed officials to initiate the process of setting up the help desk. He has also instructed the civic administration to expedite the distribution of Ayushman cards, which are essential for beneficiaries to access the schemes.

Instead of waiting for cards to be made available through the district administration, the NMMC will undertake the process of preparing and distributing the cards itself. This will enable beneficiaries to access the schemes without unnecessary delays.

The directives were issued during a health department review meeting held on Monday. The Commissioner also instructed officials to strengthen the system for identifying tuberculosis patients in the city. Medical retailers will be asked to provide information about patients purchasing tuberculosis medicines, enabling the civic body to ensure that every TB patient in its jurisdiction is identified and brought under the public health system.

With the monsoon increasing the risk of mosquito breeding, Shinde directed officials to intensify drives to identify and eliminate mosquito-breeding sites. He also called for increased public awareness to ensure that residents take preventive measures and do not allow conditions conducive to mosquito breeding.

The Commissioner has also directed the NMMC to display boards at public places and Ganesh festival venues informing citizens about the health services and facilities provided by the civic body. This move comes in view of the large number of people expected to visit public places during Ganeshotsav.

Furthermore, Shinde directed officials to accelerate health screening of citizens above 30 years under the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) campaign. The screening is aimed at detecting diabetes, hypertension, breast, cervical and oral cancers, and heart diseases.

The NMMC's efforts to improve healthcare services and awareness are a significant step towards providing quality healthcare to its citizens. By setting up a help desk and expediting the distribution of Ayushman cards, the civic body aims to ensure that beneficiaries can access the schemes without any difficulties.

The move is also expected to have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of Navi Mumbai residents, particularly during the monsoon season when the risk of mosquito-borne diseases is high. By intensifying drives to eliminate mosquito-breeding sites and increasing public awareness, the NMMC hopes to reduce the incidence of such diseases.
